West Nile Virus
Winnipeg, May 04, 2005 - The Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health is announcing the beginning of the province’s 2005 West Nile Virus Program. As in past years, the program will begin with the surveillance of birds including crows, blue jays, magpies and ravens. These birds provide an early indication of the presence of West Nile virus (WNV) in an area. The bird surveillance portion of the program will begin on May 16, 2005.


Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
Winnipeg, May 09, 2005 - Manitoba Health and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority have announced that a patient at Health Sciences Centre who was classified as suspect SARS no longer meets the criteria for suspect or probable SARS as he has tested positive for Influenza.
